Sustainability in the exhibition industry is no longer a nice-to-have. Clients are demanding it, regulations are shifting, and raw materials are becoming increasingly scarce. Thankfully, there are companies like Standcraft from Amersfoort that not only take sustainability seriously, but actively take steps towards a circular future.

We spoke with Hank Hagoord, director of Standcraft, about their participation in the new Van Straaten Textile Recycling Service. Standcraft is the first company to join – and that’s no coincidence.

“Quality and reliability are absolutely crucial for us. That’s why we’ve been working with Van Straaten for over eight years,” says Hank. “We regularly review our suppliers with a critical eye, and Van Straaten always passes with flying colours.”

A logical next step

At Standcraft, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword. The company previously switched from timber construction to modular systems to reduce waste. But the large volumes of used fabrics—which are needed for every new stand—remained a pain point. Until now.

“I’m really happy with this initiative,” Hank says. “As a stand builder, you deal with huge amounts of textile waste. Thanks to Van Straaten, we now have a concrete solution.”

Simple and effective

What convinced them to join? The simplicity. The Textile Recycling Service requires minimal extra effort, but delivers an immediate, positive impact.

“We’re all short-staffed these days. So when a supplier steps in with a practical, doable solution, my answer is: let’s do it.”

More than just recycling

Standcraft is thinking beyond textile. Recently, they held internal sessions with all employees to look for opportunities to improve together.

“People on the floor often know exactly where waste occurs. By creating awareness together, you can really start to move forward.”

A call to the industry

Hank is clear: “Recycling will become the norm—in our industry and around the world. Resources are finite, and we need to act now.”

His advice to other companies?

“Join in. The more companies get involved, the better and more affordable these solutions will become. And even if it’s not perfect from the start—at least we’re doing something.”
